Essence Sheer & Shine Lipstick

Essence is an inexpensive makeup brand that can be found all over the globe. In the UK essence products can be found at  Wilko (aka Wilkinson).

Whilst I do like trying out and lusting over higher end premium makeup lines, I love affordable makeup because every budget can partake.  Recently on my Wilko round I picked up some essentials (bath & hair stuff) and two lipsticks from essence makeup. Today I'll be showcasing essence sheer & shine lipstick in "13 like a princess".

Prior to buying this, I had not read any reviews, looked for any swatches or heard any opinions about these lipsticks. I was simply swatching the lipsticks in store and really liked the sheer glossiness and the sweet vanilla scent that emitted from them (light but noticeable) plus the price was very, very tempting. Here's my thoughts ...

Packaging: Essence Shine & Sheer lipsticks are marketed to have translucent caps that are meant to represent the actual lipstick colour. I'd say that feature rings true for '13 like a princess' because the cap is a bright pinkish red which looks just like the lipstick. I really like the packaging, its sturdy and simple without feeling too teen-based (maybe like Miss Sporty does) and the subtly effects of an 'e' on top of the cap and ingrained into the lipstick makes it feel special (like effort has been put into the range). No complaints.

Colour: A bright jelly fuchsia. Like a princess can be applied sheer but in these photos I've applied it to full impact. I absolutely love this colour, the texture, the shine. Forget mattes - I know they're all the range - but sometimes a woman needs moisture as well as colour and shine. This lipstick is everything.

Left to Right: Sheer application to full (several swipes) in the other 3 pictures.
End Assessment: Once I saw 'like a princess' in lipstick bullet form - the deal was done - it was in my basket without any hesitation. Initially I was sold on the scent (vanilla candy) and seemingly sheer texture 'essence sheer & shine lipsticks' had on my skin (back of my hand) as I thought it would be moisturising. Thankfully I was right, this lipstick has the feel of a lip balm, the pigmentation of a lipstick and the shine of a gloss. 3 in 1 babes. I love finding gems like this as its exciting to find things that work remarkably for a great price. Comparable? Yes, to a Lancome Rouge In Love lipstick I have (Rouge Valentine 185N - review coming soon) because its a lipstick that is pigmented, moisturising and glossy. However Rouge Valentine is definitely more pigmented (essence lipstick are marketed as sheer) but to be honest I really like Essence more and I guess that say's it all.
